«Malibu» er et samarbeid mellom stavangerartist Lasse Lokøy (Lokoy) og girl in red i 2018 . Dette var Lokoys første utgivelse, og ble en stor hit.
Lokoy om «Malibu»:
“It’s about a relationship which is harmed by external factors and how those surroundings can complicate a situation that is fairly uncomplicated to begin with”
-“ Sometimes, it’s hard to rise above your position and view things independently, because you will always be defined in relation to your surroundings. It’s not the height of the man that gives the length to his shadow, it’s the height of the sun”
-“I always find pleasure with mixing different musical worlds together and see what comes out of it. In this song there are Indian folk rhythms, analog synth pads and cellos, and if you listen carefully you might hear some familiar sounds from airports and cellphones in there as well. I started creating the beat when I was out touring. I always bring my portable recorder with me in case I hear any interesting sounds (yep, very geeky). The bass in the verse, which was the first element of the song I composed, is actually a noise I recorded inside an airplane on my way to Bodø in Norway”
Austin Maloney fra Daily Tune sa dette:“Malibu is very different territory to that in which either Lokøy or Girl In Red have trod in before. What would be dreamy air-pop is cast into something weirder by Lokøy’s production, which dabs little splashes of instrumentation and effects in and out to keep the song on its toes and ready to bounce off in different directions. It’s not quite experimental, but it’s certainly adventurous pop music, and it comes with a superb, soaring chorus. “
Trecisvijet.com sa dette :“Debut single ‘Malibu’ – released June 22 via Propeller Recordings – demonstrates Lokoy’s inquisitive approach to pop writing, combining “Indian folk rhythms, analog synth pads and cellos”, alongside more subtle sampling: “If you listen carefully, you might hear some familiar sounds from airports and cell phones as well,” says Bergen-based Lokoy. “The bass in the verse, which was the first element of the song I composed, is actually a noise I recorded inside an airplane on my way to Bodø in Norway.”-“ Lyrically speaking, the track’s premise proves just as layered as its soundscape: “It's about a relationship which is harmed by external factors and how those surroundings can complicate a situation that is fairly uncomplicated to begin with,” Lokoy explains. “Sometimes, it’s hard to rise above your position and view things independently, because you will always be defined in relation to your surroundings,” he says, referencing lead refrain “It's not the height of the man that gives the length to his shadow, it's the height of the sun”.”“Malibu” ble mikset av karmøybuen Odd Martin Skålnes.
